info

Taragot was developed as a single-reed woodwind instrument by two Budapest instrument makers, and became popular right after World War I, when one of the soldiers began to use this instrument (until then only used in Hungarian military bands) in dance music. The dynamic range of the taragot competes very well with the versatility of the organ. The musical pieces we hear range from Romanian suites, to Armenian, Bulgarian, Azerbaidjan, Italian and klezmer traditionals.
