memo

The traditional Hungarian gypsy music that Parno Graszt play features the music of the Vlach (Wallachian) gypsies. It's a style that reminds of Kalyi Jag. The eight-piece band, which is indeed a real village band, depends heavily on their interwoven vocals, elementary guitar patterns and oral or can-produced bass sounds. There is some variation as the lead vocal is exchanged regularly between men and women. Most of the tracks are uptempo party songs, interrupted by some tasteful ballads. The CD is beautifully packed, but unfortunately, there are no liner notes or song translations in the booklet. Nevertheless you can enjoy more than 70 minutes of fine gypsy music, recorded clear and dynamic (as ever with Fono productions). There is a CDROM Videoclip enhanced, showing a village celebration in Paszab on a small, black & white screen.
