'5 Star Motel' is the debut album from multi-instrumentalist and producer Brian Gitkin, inspired by his mysterious uncle - a travelling salesman who crisscrossed the US in the late 70s selling knockoff Gibson guitars to the diverse groups of immigrants from all four corners of the globe who were coming to the US during the 2nd great migration. Recycling and filtering the sounds he encountered through his own psychedelic lens, he created a sound rooted in the disparate sounds he was encountering from places like Ethiopia, Mexico, Peru, and North Africa. Sounds a lot like really well crafted Peruvian chicha but with a more modern polished feel to it. |
