Daniel Szabo was captivated by the music of Szeklerland during his years as a student. His experiences at dance and music camps and personal encounters with local musicians inspired him to explore this unique musical world in greater depth during his later years at the Music Academy. The first great generation of folk music researchers, Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly, Laszlo Lajtha and others, collected almost exclusively in Szeklerland in the early 20th century. The study of the local archaic melodic material proved to be a milestone in the field of scientific research and contributed greatly to the reform of Hungarian music. However since the development of the dance-hall movement, Szekely folk music has been relegated to the background. It is therefore to reveal the diversity of folk music in this area and to present it to the music-loving public in an authentic form. |
