A debut album from James with his band, a dynamic group of musicians at the forefront of Scottish music. James Harper is well known for his work as the piper with the bands Docas and The Red Hot Chilli Pipers. A graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland James, takes inspiration for this album from different aspects of his musical background and heritage. The album 'Culzean' is named after a famous castle in Ayrshire, Scotland. The line up that accompanies him on the nine tracks here includes some renowned musicians from Britain, such as Mohsen Amini and Ciaran Ryan, but also musicians from other countries such as Italian fiddler David Lombardi and French guitarist Jean Damey. It was well worth the long wait for this album, different in style from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers? work that Harper has contributed to, but equally full of thriving energy and vibrancy. |
