Spain is a good place for the preservation of unwashed soul music, as breeding grounds for the creation of great works that breathe the sound of the 70s and reflect the attitude of classic funk greats. Shirley Davis has done this very well so far. What is often lost in works of the much-maligned retrosoul/modern soul carriage does not happen with Davis. Audibly oriented towards the grande dame of the movement, Sharon Jones, she also gives the songs on her new album the necessary passion and uncompromisingness with which she stands out very much from many other retro soul artists. With this album, they have produced nothing less than one of the most important soul albums of 2022.
