You may have already come across them on a stage in Wallonia (or elsewhere), the combo is a regular at folk festivals, "American" traditional meetings, music festivals and other cultural centres. This "last one for the road" follows a first album released three years ago, which consisted of covers of traditional Americana. If HJD didn't abandon the recipe and the jugband / ragtime repertoire, this time they've put together their own sauce since they deliver here 13 original compositions where it's about whisky (Whisky), rivers and wide open spaces (Johnson River) or stowaway trains (Stowaway Train): typical "subjects" of this culture. To the rather DIY instruments (washboard or contrabassoon) are added drums, harmonica, banjo or electric guitar (on the very successful Lost My Soul) but also brass (Feed You) or a violin or a clarinet (The Rabbit Song). An album with well thought-out arrangements, bouncy and with a communicative good mood. |
