Nilza Costa is a Brazilian singer and songwriter from Salvador (Bahia), a city on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean that is strongly influenced by 'Afro' traditions. Her passion for music was transmitted to her by her maternal grandmother, but her artistic career began to bear fruit in Italy, where she moved in 2006. Here she studied singing with Beatrice Sarti, a Florentine artist specialising in postural singing. Nilza Costa's speciality is to combine the ancestral rhythms of Africa with traditional forms of Brazilian musical and religious culture (such as Candombl?, Capoeira, Samba Duro, Maculel e and Cantigas de Roda), transfiguring them in her singing into an extremely original and improvisational artistic language.
