Kamel El Harrachi is the worthy heir of the king of chaabi continues to explore his paternal heritage, that of Dahmane El Harrachi. Present in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, chaabi was born at the beginning of the 20th century in the Kasbah of Algiers. Although inspired by classical Arab-Andalusian music, Dahmane El Harrachi has helped modernise Algerian chaabi by introducing the accordion and double bass. He is best known for his hit 'Ya Rayah', which was covered twenty years later by Rachid Taha. After losing his father prematurely in a car accident, the seven-year-old took refuge in music, with his guitar and the records of Dahmane El Harrachi. This led him, in his twenties, to start his own career, thus becoming the reincarnation of Dahmane El Harrachi, to whom he resembles. |
