The talented flautist Joce Mienniel has for many years been a growing force in the jazz world, notably in the Orchestre National de Jazz. Passionate about traditional music, his purpose with "Babel" is not to return to a particular style or language, but to blur boundaries and erase frontiers. What he has chosen here is a universe related to the sounds of the Middle East, India and the Mediterranean. Playing flutes from all over the world, Joce has surrounded himself with his usual associates ? Antony Gatta (percussion), Stracho Temelkovski (mandol, bendir, daf), Joachim Florent (double bass) ? and guests from Pakistan and Syria: Ashraf Sharif Khan (sitar) and Iyad Haimur (oud, quanoun). |
