The New York-based guitarist, singer and songwriter Cecilia Villar Eljuri, who performs under the name Eljuri, compulsively fuses genres in a way that?s not entirely unusual for a Latino musician. She is, however, rather unusually a Latina rocker and electric guitarist, going back to her roots in various Latin styles after starting out as a rocker. According to Eljuri, the album is a direct call to action in which she urges people to fight for their rights, freedom and equal representation. ?It?s definitely more aggressive than En Paz?, she states, affirming that her previous album in which she branched into flamenco, reggae, rock, and other musical genres, was merely the first drizzle to the power behind Eljuri?s storm. Argentinean Gustavo Borner produced the album in which the Colombian group Doctor Kr?pula and Jamaican duo Sly & Robbie collaborate. ?She is equally rock and Latin,? stated Borner about Eljuri?s musical style. ?So this record is both a Rock record with Latin influences and a Latin record with rock influences. The trick was finding the balance between those two elements.? |
