The exploration of authentic sources of folk music have always been important for Cimbaliband. Band leader Balazs Unger?s entry into the world of Balkan music was facilitated through the music of ?Csango?, people living in the Moldavian region of Romania. In 1997, accompanied with a fresh driving license and his Trabant he went to Moldavia, to explore the then living history of authentic cimbalom music in the region. There he recorded the unique music and players styles of cimbalom players such as Ion Spiridon, Antim Ioan and Cosma Piticu. Some of these long forgotten tunes are included in this album. As opposed to their modern approach to folk music, the recorded this cd with only authentic instruments. This piece of work is their respectful gratitude for the Csango people, who managed to preserve their way of life in the modern age, through decades of suffering and hardship. |
