A gumbo of off-kilter blues and folk spiced up by African grooves and pop hooks, all held together by stories from Cory's myriad travels. With this release, his second solo album, the sound is a little more electrified, a little more plugged in, but retains the spirit of Cory's previous output. Recorded analog at Tonehouse Studios in Noisy-le-Roi, France with some additional recording in Annapolis, Maryland and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the sound is big and warm and features stellar musicians from Paris and elsewhere. The songs are all inspired by experiences from Cory's numerous trips down backroads, backstreets, backwaters: Sell You My Soul was born when a guy in the middle of a small village in northern Ethiopia tried to sell Cory his two sisters. |
