The Al-Kindi instrumental ensemble was founded in 1983 by French musician, musicologist and qanun virtuoso Julien J?lal Eddine Weiss, who died prematurely in 2015. Along with his fellow musicians they made Al-Kindi one of the finest musical ensembles, known for the rigour of its work and the excellence of its interpretation of the Arab classical repertoire. For more than thirty years, the Al-Kindi Ensemble has been exploring the richness and universality of Arab classical music and culture in the hope of fostering the positive idea of peaceful coexistence between peoples. The war in Syria has strongly impacted the group's activities but it has adapted, with changes of territory for some, and the arrival of new. |
