Their cheerful and brilliant music is totally focused on the deconstruction of the popular clich?s of Brazilian folk music. They put it upside down, or pick up elements, to make a new version of it, which remembers the crazy avant-garde popmusici like Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa. Also, their music reminds us of the exotic weirdness of the Brazilian popular Os Mutantes in the 1960s. Their CDs are incorrectly numbered, the group is called a trio, but is actually a quintet - sometimes even a sextet or septet - and musically is this band a truly eccentric 'enfant terrible'. For 15 years, Satanique Samba Trio has been successful in this approach; they gained a cult status and were allowed to act as side act with big names like Tom Z? and Nan? Vasconcelos. |
