Seydou Diabaté is recognized by his peers throughout Mandingo Africa as the young genius of balafon, both for his technical prowess, his creativity and his musicality! As a multi-instrumentalist, he plays the balafons dioula, sambla and allsian (pentatonic), the diatonic balafon ("djelibalan" or Guinean balafon) and the "kamelen n'goni", a pentatonic harp. When he sings his lyrics, it is in dioula language (he writes about family, love, society, the role of music). He gathered around him a team of local musicians to create Kanazoe Orkestra. It is the story of a traveling griot who, during his exile, draws the sound in the tradition and magnifies it in the meeting. Kanazoé and his musicians offer us a music that is both dancing, muscular and moving. Note the presence of two guests: Dobet Gnahoré (voice) and Jean-Philippe Rykiel (keyboards). |
