There is perhaps no parallel in our modern times to the artistic bond between Lebanese oud-player and composer Marcel Khalife and poet Mahmoud Darwish. It is rare that a celebrated musician is the twin manifestation of a great contemporary poet. The lyrics presented on these two discs span nearly all forty years of Darwish?s poetry. Similar to the poet?s transformation over the years, the listener will easily distinguish Khalife?s multiple rebirths and returns. Khalife?s compositions are played by himself on oud and vocals and is backed by musicians on piano, double bass, percussion and more. The booklet contains translations of the poems in English.
