The Red Stoep is steeped in Nomfusi?s traditional roots with stories of growing up in the township and childhood memories influenced by her single mother?s spirituality as a traditional healer. The 11-track offering is led by the single ?Iqaqa? released in June, and draws from issues such as social injustice and gender-based violence. Sonically, the eclectic album fuses maskandi with big brass arrangements, groovy township rhythms and melodic guitar lines. The album is peppered with soulful ballads bearing hints of gospel, jazz, lounge and Afropop.
