On this album, Sephardic singer Francoise Atlan explores the Jewish repertoire of the Ottoman Empire (mainly from Thessaloniki, Istanbul, the Balkans). These recordings present the main genres we also encounter in Spanish-Jewish culture: romances (medieval ballads), coplas (Hebraic religious songs), kantigas (daily life songs) and piyyutim (liturgical poems). Atlans angelic voice impressively interprets this historical repertoire, backed by a sublte Ensemble En Cordais. Booklet and translations of the songs in English.
