Merging the powerful beat of its drum with meaningful song lyrics, Young Spirit utilize its Pow-Wow singing to bring joy and healing. Started in the heart of the Frog Lake Cree First Nation, Young Spirit has endeared itself to the Pow-Wow trail and has won multiple singing championships in the process. Showing the power of merging Indigenous musical expression with activism, Young Spirit has dedicated this album to all of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) and Girls. For decades, Indigenous women in Canada have been disappearing and dying violently at alarming rates. Red Dress Special is meant to remind the people of all Indigenous nations to stand up and look out for the women in their communities.
