Zatar has been distilling an atypical "chamber ethno-jazz" since 2013. Born from the encounter of a cellist and three jazz musicians with an acute curiosity, the quartet first articulates its repertoire around three axes: personal compositions, pieces from the classical repertoire revisited and open to improvisation, and finally pieces written by the Italian cellist Giovanni Sollima, rearranged for Zatar's four voices. For this album the group turned more resolutely to the South, from Greece to the Balkans, from Sicily to Lebanon, a mosaic of languages and images immortalized. |
