The Kronos Quartet from San Francisco has invited the two Iranian singers Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat to cooperate in a CD. The music on the CD is 14 songs composed by Mahsa Vahdat to classical Persian poems by Hafez and Rumi and the contemporary poets Forough Farrokhzad and Mohammad Ibrahim Jafari. 4 contemporary composers, Sahba Amenikia (Iranian/American), Aftab Dervishi (Iranian/Dutch), Jacob Garchik (American) and Atabak Elyasi (Iranian), have arranged the songs for string quartet and vocalist. In three of the songs Mahsa and Marjan sing together as a duet. The title 'Placeless' - picked from one of Rumi?s poems from the 13th century - indicates the universal human approach that music and poetry can inspire mankind with, in times of increasing levels of conflict between cultures and religions.
