Although Mirek Kemel is known first of all as a cartoonist, he is definitely not a newcomer on the music scene and this is his third album. He mixes folk with rock, chanson with klezmer, and blues. Moods alternate often in the course of the songs, despite all the flawlessness and variety they all hold together. But what is important is what Mirek Kemel is singing about. As a songwriter he is much more seriously than as a cartoonist and places great emphasis on words, often based on his own experiences. While in cartoons Kemel often glosses (or he wants to comment on the subject) of current events, in songs he can afford to ponder over more general themes and deal with stories. |
