"Sketches of 20th Century" tells the story of Franco D'Andrea's passion for 20th century music. His poetics feeds on the inventions, discoveries and colours of the music of the short century. In these orchestral pages, his music explodes, thanks to the infinite sonic possibilities offered by a mixed ensemble of jazz and contemporary musicians. For D'Andrea, the 20th century is above all the century of jazz: from Armstrong to Monk, from Duke Ellington to Archie Shepp. And for him all jazz is contemporary, current. Every language is superimposable. The scores, arranged by Eduardo Rojo, are an amplification for orchestral ensemble of the pianist's poetics and language: within them we find his musical passions from the heterophony of 1920s jazz to African polyrhythms, to the cultured music of the short century, all the intervals and colours of the 20th century. |
