'Sopas Do Espirito Santo? is dedicated to the traditional music of the Azores. The album is based on the Regional Orchestra Lira A?oriana, an orchestra of wind instruments and percussion, which integrates young musicians of the Philharmonic Bands of the several Islands and that participates in all the themes, all popular. In addition several polyphonic choirs and popular musicians and scholars from all the Islands of the Azores participate on the CD, with a total of more than 300 musicians and singers. On this CD, the regional music of the Azores is seen from the perspective of the philharmonic bands and the religious and pagan choral harmony. The philharmonic bands play a major role in the community life of the Azores, both for the musical formation they provide to the youth and for their participation in religious and popular festivities. The same happens with the polyphonic choirs, usually linked to the liturgical celebration, but also with a classic and popular repertoire, having been given in this work, along with the orchestra, the relevance that they actually have and deserve. |
