Kocg?n, born in Mainz Germany in 1983, rooted in the Kurdish Alevi tradition of the East-Anatolian Sivas province, learns to play the long necked lute baglama at the early age of 6. Together with her cousin Cemil Qocgiri she starts her search after traditional music from her home country. First recordings follow in 2003, when she forms her own quartet, whilst studying tembur and singing at the Mainzer Weltmusik Akademie. This first album Sirr-I Dem shows a delicate singer with an expressive voice and a feeling for atmosphere and tasteful arrangements, making this album a jem to discover.
