Romany people around the world have been, and still are, skilled musicians and singers known for their love of upholding tradition. Romany people have their roots in India, as reflected in the language, containing 60% Indian words. As a result of wandering and flight through the centuries, the culture has become peppered with a variety of musical impulses, expressions and directions. For at least 500 years, Romany people have lived in Norway. This album is made to illustrate the rich and very much alive traditions that still thrive among the travelers in Norway. The voices we hear are mostly of amateurs who do not consider themselves as an artist, so these field recordings give a unique insight in a part of Norwegian cultural heritage.
