This new album from Hungarian singer and folklorist Agnes Herczku is firmly based in Hungarian folk roots yet also open to spacious, gorgeous, Western-informed soundscapes, largely due to the production of her longtime collaborator, Bulgarian born multi-instrumentalist Nikola Parov. Nikola and Agnes's sensitive and innovative treatment of these (mostly very sad) songs have resulted in a beautiful sounding album, full of surprises and contrasts.
