The choir was founded in 2002 by Tamas Bubno, a Hungarian church musician and conductor. The choir started to participate regularly in Byzantine liturgical services, mostly in Greek Catholic Churches in Budapest and other Hungarian cities. The ensemble took its name Saint Ephraim, the Syrian (307-378), who was the first great Byzantine hymnographer, called "The Harp of the Holy Ghost" by his contemporaries. You will hear songs on this album in English, Aramaic, Old Church Slavonic, Greek, Hindi, Latin, Hungarian, Galician Portuguese, Sotho, Sardinian, Serbian and Ukrainian. In addition, three so-called bell prayers will also be heard. These bells are also used as instruments to call the devoted to prayer, as well as serving as interludes or to join sacral hymns. Saint Ephraim Male Choir uses these bells in all their concerts, having become something of a trademark to the choir. |
