Since its formation, Gobe Zenekar has been aiming to create programmes based on the relationship between folk music and classical music. The most important and most frequently played of these was the so-called "Bartok programme". This compilation compares the 44 violin duets with the original compositions. The special feature of this album is that this material has never before been heard in such a summarised form, and has never been released on disc. The orchestral arrangements of the many recordings, which are essentially vocal and solo instrumental, required a great deal of research and imagination, and the linguistic and national diversity of the whole, including Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian, Ruthenian, Serbian and Arabic melodies, are special. |
