Intriguing this project of Luca Mannutza dedicated to the music of the great Wayne Shorter, his personal music idol. Mannutza managed to add his personal spin, working mainly on the rhythmic aspect of the music leaving for the most part unchanged Wayne's harmonies and melodies. Using metric modulations, odd meters, feel changes Shorter's music takes a different direction from the original version. New doors open up into unusual musical landscapes led by remarkable Mannutza and his quartet. 'The Uneven Shorter' is a rare album, because it's certainly not easy to find records that have so many different examples of these rhythmic speculations.
