An inspirational meeting of virtuoso musicians from Brittany and the Republic of Macedonia, blending the exuberant drive of a Balkan brass band with the fiery sounds of Breton folk music for an east-west European dance-fest, as heard at the Orkestar's Showcase at Womex 2013.
We've seen gypsy brass band clashes before, but here's one with a difference - brass players from the Breton town of Burek merge with musicians from the Macedonian city Kocani and the bombard (the characteristic double reed pipe from Brittany) player Gaby Kerdoncuff to create a unique fusion of two cultures from the edge of Europe. A very modern take on the dance music of these ancient traditions.
