With ?Toprak Kokusu?, meaning ?Scent of the earth?, Sevval Sam brings together the various styles she interpreted on her various previous albums: arabesque, tango, Black Sea folk songs and Turkish classical music. It was not an accident that she choose Kalan music to release her album, a company that is famous for its diverse releases: Armenian, Kurdish, Turkish, Azerbaijani etc. The 18 songs on the album move freely from the Balkans, the Black Sea, Central Anatolia, the Aegean region up until the Caucasus, stressing the fact that more than 40 peoples live in Anatolia. Language may be different, songs about love and pain are universal. |
