Anne Kalmering's voice is unlike any other. With her soulful and warm interpretations of songs in Yiddish and Ladino, she has long been a central figure in Swedish-Jewish culture. She often sings along with the critically acclaimed trio Stahlhammer Klezmer Classic, and they are now releasing their debut album Vayter. The album shows the breadth of klezmer music - Jewish folk music meets chamber music and cabaret in suggestive and playful arrangements. Stahlhammer Klezmer Classic has its roots in the Stahlhammer Orchestra, which was based in Poland 1920-1939 with violinist Semmy Stahlhammer's grandfather and uncles. Now the Semmy family tradition continues with new group members. The title Vayter means "onward, forward" in Yiddish, and is a tribute to all who have walked before with their songs and their music. |
