The tsogo people represent a small percentage of Gabon's population. However, their musicians enjoy a certain notoriety at the national level. The ngombi is an eight-stringed arched harp tuned according to a hexatonic system, and accompanies the vocal repertoires that occupy a central place in ritual ceremonies and whose semantics are highly symbolic. At the same time, the instrument, which is widespread in the region, is also played outside the ceremonial framework. It can be heard at vigils, on the radio, in bars or dance halls, or on various recording media. |
