"Praca do Comercio" won the award for best Portuguese album of 2017. There are several instrumentalists, including Canada's James Hill (ukulele), Jose Manuel Neto (Portuguese guitar), Pedro Joia (viola) and Norberto Gon?alves da Cruz (mandolin). They also collaborate with Antonio Zambujo, Olga Cerpa (Canarias), Chney Wa Gune (Mozambique), Luanda Cozetti (Brazil) and others. Composer and multi-instrumentalist Julio Pereira revisits on this album the acoustic universe of an instrument: the cavaquinho, a small 4 string guitar. A revisit that is not a return, but rather an update of sonorities, forms, modes (and fashions), through which the cavaquinho and musical geography of Julio translate a constant search for new ways. On this album it is proved that in music and in life, there is no tradition without contemporaneity. The work and the artistic performance of Julio Pereira continue to provoke surprises. |
