At the age of 15 she joined a vocal choir. There she was discovered by Theodorakis. Her first album, in 1966, was a version of Theodorakis' famous Mauthausen cycle. In 1976, Maria Farantouri founded her own company. She mainly performed work by Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis and Eleni Karara. In 1993, she began a second career. She recorded new CDs and made concert trips throughout Europe. In her performances she often paid tribute to the engaged Spanish poet Federico Garc?a Lorca. This double CD contains 40 of her best songs between 1965 and 2000. |
