Oyvind Brabant from Nes in Hallingdal has, through a lifetime, been one of the country's foremost practitioners of Hardanger fiddle. In Hallingdal he is in a special position, and one can safely claim that he stands as the foremost practitioner, teacher and tradition bearer on his instrument in his traditional field. Brabant, born in 1956, learned to play the Hardanger fiddle at a time when interest in this instrument in Hallingdal was low, and locally there are few other Hardanger fiddle practitioners of his generation. He is therefore a very important link between the older practitioners he learned from (for example Knut Myrann, Odd Bakkerud and Jens Myro) and the younger players he has trained.
