'Soulmates' is the meeting between similar intentions that produce a deep musical understanding. This record tries to express some ideas and conceptions gained in the formative years, including the belief that jazz must move on a terrain that leaves room for the listener, as something immediate, livable, everyday. Not ostentation or interference, but precisely an encounter that becomes understood. How much the final product has centered the intention, however, is up to the listener to judge. In jazz, the final product depends on the improvisation of the execution, which can lead far beyond the starting point. The vanishing point of this process is the intention, in which the musician remains himself while measuring himself with his own knowledge and technique, trying to get to the bottom of it, and in a certain sense putting himself naked. The intention therefore betrays the intimacy of the musician beyond his control and projects it outside. |
