Romania is a country that has managed to maintain a vibrant and richly varied music tradition, after centuries of invasion and colonization. Romanian folk music can be divided into two traditions, one with its roots in the rural culture, the other with a more professional lineage that can be traced back to the lautari, Romania?s traditional players. The recordings were made by the renowned music-ethnologist Deben Bhattacharya.
